Thailand Launches First Transgender Modeling Agency

Bangkok-based agency has 18 girls in its trans division

A Thai modeling agency has launched the first transgender model division in the world.

The Bangkok-based Apple Modeling Agency annouced the division on Tuesday (11 November) and has 18 transgender girls on its books.

Apple is one of the leading and largest modeling agencies in the southeast Asian country.

Draq queen Pangina Heals interviewed ten of the models for Coconuts TV on a photo shoot for Lips magazine.

‘We have three physical types of transgender models,’ said Siwaporn Hotarapawanond, director of the agency.

‘First, the transgender woman who is all natural. Second, the transgender who had breast surgery only. Third, the transgender who underwent the complete surgery.’

Transgender models are fast becoming a fixture in the fashion industry, with Geena Rocero, Lea T and Andreja Pejić leading the way.

Geena Rocero came out as transgender in March and last week Lea T announced as the new muse of US hair care brand Redken.

However, 24-year-old Beauty said, ‘As a model, it’s hard. But as a transgender model, it’s harder.’

‘Some products are limited to female models only. For example, lingerie.

‘But now society is becoming more open.’

And there are upsides to being a transgender model in Thailand too.

‘Yes, we are tall like international models, like over 180cm,’ Park said.
